Because Ta' Marija's folklore night runs on a fixed schedule rather than every evening, the practical way to plan a Malta trip is to lock in the date for this one first and build everything else around it. With pickup typically starting in the early evening, the day of the show is still yours until then — a shorter half-day activity fits comfortably before the transfer collects you.
Valletta after dark
Malta's capital rewards an evening visit as much as a daytime one — the bastion walls and harbour views along the fortifications hold their character once the day-trip crowds thin out. It's a natural evening to pair with any night that isn't your folklore-night booking, and close enough to most coastal accommodation not to need much planning.
Mdina, the Silent City
The old fortified capital of Mdina is at its best in the hour before and after sunset, once the coach parties that fill it during the day have mostly left. It sits inland, not far from Mosta itself, which makes it a reasonable pairing for a day that also involves an evening pickup heading toward Ta' Marija.
Marsaxlokk and the painted boats
If the luzzu boats — Malta's traditional painted fishing boats, each carrying the same eye motif seen across the island's folk decoration — are on your list, Marsaxlokk's harbour in the late afternoon light is the classic spot for them, particularly around its Sunday fish market. It's a coastal, low-key contrast to the inland folklore evening, and easy to combine with a relaxed day before an evening pickup.
A full day on Gozo
Malta's sister island, Gozo, is a common full-day addition to a Malta trip and works well scheduled for a day other than your folklore-night booking, given the ferry crossing and return. Because the folklore-night transfer picks you up from your accommodation on Malta rather than requiring you to already be somewhere specific, a Gozo day that returns you to your hotel by the early evening still leaves the folklore night open as an option on a different date.
